Norse mythology and the universe as seen by the Vikings contain all sorts of different worlds and mythological beings. Names to fire the imagination, such as Midgard, Asgard, Utgard and Niflhel. Giants, gods and monsters. Many legends and sagas were told.

The people of the Viking age are thought to have seen the world like a kind of round plate or disc, at the middle of which stood an enormous tree – Yggdrasil, the tree of life.
